Advanced Project Management

Programme Overview

The advanced project management course provides project managers with advanced skills, knowledge, techniques and models to manage complex and multiple projects. The project manager and project team members are equipped to manage the dynamic interrelationships of time, cost and quality. The following key processes are also examined in-depth: problem analysis and project identification, project planning, risk and resource management, procurement, tender and contract management, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation.  This course draws mainly on PMBOK principles.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, learners will be able to:

  • Explain strategic and project management terminology, concepts, and definitions
  • Explain the link between strategic management, programme management and project management
  • Describe key project success and failure factors within their workplace
  • Explain the skills and processes to manage group dynamics and project teams effectively
  • Successfully analyse problems, develop a feasible project strategy, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a project
  • Identify, understand and involve appropriate stakeholders in the project management process
  • Be able to apply key project management tools and formulate the Gantt chart, project structure, budget , PERT, Logical Framework, Work Breakdown Schedule
  • Manage time more effectively and efficiently
  • Identify processes and apply key skills to manage human resources
  • Identify project risks and develop a proactive risk management strategy
  • Identify and manage the quality aspect of a project
  • Explain key issues related to outsourcing, and effective contract and tender management
  • Be able to apply project management software as a project management tool
  • Be able to write professional project documents, reports and proposals
