New Venture Creation Learnership

Programme Overview

The New Venture Creation qualification prepares participants for the creation of new ventures by developing competencies in all major aspects of a new venture. It is important that the learners have a full understanding of what is needed for them to run successful businesses as well as what they need to be able to ask for financial assistance.

There are many organised coaching opportunities to assist the learners so that they can set up a viable business for themselves. The New Venture Creation Learnership Programme is offered as a block release comprising of 6 modules, each delivered as a one-week full-time attendance block.  It incorporates self-study, assignment writing, workplace experience and mentoring. To be found competent the learner will be expected to complete a final integrated assessment that addresses all the outcomes in the qualification.

Learning Outcomes:

The work-based experience will focus, amongst others, on the following activities:

  •   Developing human resources management skills, knowledge and competencies.
  •   Improving attitudes and behaviours
  •   Helping with technical aspects of education, training and development;
  •   Helping with planning of work to meet deadlines and performance standards;
  •   Managing time and quality; and  Identifying potential obstacles and find solutions to problems encountered.
  •   Developing skills plans for themselves and applying them so as to improve productivity levels; and
    applying ETD policies, systems, procedures and processes.

The modules for the qualification include:

• Module 1                Know Yourself;

• Module 2                Business Opportunities and Products;

• Module 3                Financial Management;

• Module 4                Managing People in a Small Business;

• Module 5                Marketing Plan;

• Module 6                Business Plan.

Duration:

The programme runs over 12 months with the course work completed over 8 months and the final 4 months comprising of in-field mentoring in the execution of the business plan.
