Programme Overview
This National Certificate: Human Resource Management and Practice Support prepares participants for employment in human resource management and related fields by developing a broad set of HR competencies.
The Certificate in Human Resource Management and Practice Support is registered at NQF level 4 with 141 credits. It is a 12 month programme, comprising 5 compulsory modules.
Learning Outcomes
- Perform administrative duties related to human resource management and practices
- Support the implementation of procedures and systems related to human resource management and practices in all of the following role clusters
- Strategic planning for human resources management and practices
- Acquisition, development and utilisation of people
- Establishment and improvement of labour and employee relations
- Compensation and administration related to human resources management and practices
- Collect, collate, and distribute information related to human resources management and practices in the context of a predetermined plan
- Provide advice on or refer to appropriate person in response to queries on organisational procedures related to human resources management and practices
- Demonstrate basic understanding of people dynamics and impact in the workplace
- Demonstrate basic understanding of the functioning of business and the role and contribution of individuals within organisations
- Identify strengths and areas for improvement in own learning through self-reflection and reflection on support for organisational human resource management and practices

Duration
Learners are expected to complete a total of 1014 notional hours within a 12 month period.
The course is offered in a variety of modes: as a block release programme comprising five full-time attendance modules (each module is 4 days in duration), evenings (Tuesdays and Thursdays) or Saturday options. Please note however that a particular mode will only be offered based on demand.
All options included contact days and self-study, assignments as well as examinations.

1 Communication studies and language
Read, analyse and respond to a variety of texts, interpret and use information from a variety of texts, write texts for a range of communicative contexts, write for a wide range of contexts, accommodate audience and context needs in oral communication, engage in sustained oral communication and evaluate spoken texts.
2 Mathematical and basic business skills
Apply basic business concepts, use the writing process to compose texts required in the business environment, apply knowledge of statistics and probability to critically interrogate and effectively communicate findings in life related problems, represent, analyse and calculate shape and motion in 2- and 3- dimensional space in different contexts, use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal, business, national and international issues.
3 Recruitment and Induction
Demonstrate an understanding of employment relations in an organization, participate in the implementation and utilisation of equity-related processes, recruit and select candidates to fill defined positions, induct a new employee represent stakeholders in consultations and discussions on matters that arise at shop floor level.
4 Training and Development
Analyse the skill-development legislation and apply it in the workplace, apply knowledge of HIV and AIDS to a specific business sector and a workplace, perform one-on-one training on the job, access legal contracts for business, use language and communication in occupational learning programmes.
5 Legal Issues in Human Resource Management
Manage individual and team performance, supervise work unit to achieve work-unit objectives (individual and teams)and assist and support learners to manage their learning.
