Dialogue Circle: Presenteeism and Authentic Leadership (24 July)

Participants from the first International Conference on Secrets of Success in Leadership identified a need for a forum in which authentic leadership can be collectively explored and developed.

The Authentic Leadership Dialogue Circle offers structured interactive sessions with expert facilitation around pertinent real-world leadership issues.

Presenteeism and Authentic Leadership

This topic was conceived by participants in the first circle. It will focus on the role of authentic leadership in the context of employee ‘presenteeism’, where staff are present but not meaningfully engaged. This will be discussed through existing cases from participants and through the lens of management theory.

    • Some stories/cases about presenteeism at work

Minutes of the last Dialogue Circle

  • John welcomed guests and introduced Marko Saravanja, founding director and CEO of Regenesys Management

  • Marko pointed out that after the conference people felt there should be some form of follow-up to reinforce the learnings of the conference

The evening’s aims were:

  • To establish purpose/s of the forum
  • To establish what the forum could achieve
  • Articulate the expectations

Proposed purposes of Authentic Leadership Dialogue Circle

  • Networking
  • Learning and exchange – Exchange views and theories from leaders
  • Creating awareness – Learning and exchange of ideas
  • Challenging our own contribution to authentic leadership
  • Support group

Other purpose-related points:

  • How do we bring spirituality into the mainstream?
  • Creating awareness of authentic leadership outside the forum
  • Personal development and development of others – start with developing self, move to the development of others

Who will drive this?

  • Suggestion that the team driving the forum is made up of people from inside and outside of Regenesys
  • Suggestion that Regenesys should take the lead

Expectations expressed

  • Support group.
  • Balance of leadership theory and application
  • Helpful critical feedback – life case studies
  • Each of our workplaces becomes a laboratory for how to do it better
  • Communication facility between meetings for members to be in contact – possibly an email members list
  • Getting linked up with mentors

How will the process roll out?

  • Once a month on the last Thursday of every month.
  • Needs to be facilitated; time specific; structured; one to one and half hours.
  • People rotating as facilitators
