Programme Overview
The Sustainable Development course will explore development theories and interrogate relationships between development, economy, poverty, democracy and equity.
Learning Outcomes
- Be familiar with development terminology, concepts and definitions
- Be able to describe various development philosophies and schools of thought such as Marx, Weber, Keynes, Durkheim etc
- Understand the relationships between sustainable development, democracy, poverty, equity, governance and political economy
- Be able to describe the role of state in developing and developed countries
- Be familiar with success factors of the fastest growing developing countries
- Be able to analyse and critique public policies aiming at achieving sustainable development
- Have an understanding of advantages and disadvantages of foreign aid driven development
