Project Management

Programme Overview

This course explores strategies, techniques and processes necessary to manage successful projects. The course covers all the phases of the project management cycle i.e. project analysis and initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.  A range of tools are identified such as the Gantt and PERT charts, work-breakdown structures, cost benefit analysis, decision making trees and computer software. Critical success factors of project management are scrutinised such as time, finance, risk, quality, conflict, team development, stakeholder management, project risk management, contract and procurement management and project report.

Learning outcomes

  • Be familiar with project management terminology, concepts, and definitions
  • Have an understanding of key project success and failure factors within their workplace
  • Know the skills and processes to manage group dynamics and project teams effectively
  • Be able to successfully analyse problems
  • Develop a feasible project strategy, plan, implement,control, and evaluate a project
  • Be able to apply key project management tools Gantt chart, work break-down structure, budget, and schedules
  • Be able to successfully identify, understand and involve appropriate stakeholders in the project management process
  • Know the key skills and processes to successfully delegate and manage time more effectively and efficiently
  • Know the main processes and skills to manage conflict
  • Be familiar with key issues related to outsourcing, effective contract and tender management
  • Know the structures to write professional project reports and proposals

Duration

  • 3 days contact time including facilitation and group activities
  • 30 days self study after which participants to submit their portfolio of evidence.

Accreditation

A certificate of competence will be awarded upon successful completion of a portfolio of evidence
